What was a 3 day show turned out to be 10 days of insane travel. Krista, I, and Pauper’s Candle Company traveled the open road to Mammoth Lakes, California for an artisan show. We decided to take 395 South from Spokane to Mammoth Lakes. It was an incredible and beautiful trip. We traveled through the plains and desert of Washington, Oregon, and California. If you want to see some unique country in which the highway stretches on forever, then this is the road trip for you. If you don’t like the utter feeling of being alone, or that you are the only person to survive World War III, then this road of desolation is definitely not for you. However, we still highly recommend the mirror reflections of Lake Alberta in Oregon or the tufa spires found at Mono Lake, California.

In conclusion to our show at Mammoth Lakes, we decided to take a quick tour of our National Parks on the way back to Sandpoint, Idaho. We saw Yosemite Valley, Death Valley, Zion Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Yellowstone National Parks. We have seen some of the most beautiful parts of our country. It was a refreshing trip to take during these turbulent economic and political times. If you are feeling lost, discombobulated, or overwhelmed by the negative media, we highly suggest shutting the television off and taking a road trip to some of our National Parks. Seriously, life is too short and we all need to find moments to enjoy and celebrate life. This trip was one of those times for us, and we recommend the open road of exploration to anyone who needs a fresh perspective.

Hopefully, we’ll see you at one of our shows at some unique destination for you and us.

August 24, 2010

Hello everyone in the blog-o-sphere. My name is Mark Webber; I am Krista’s husband and helper in times of need with Pauper’s Candle Company. Krista has become so inundated with orders and stocking for shows; she asked me to update the world as to the progress of the company. Well, Pauper’s Candle Co. still exists for one and is growing. We are expanding our shows for 2010, so be sure to swing by and say hi when we come to a town near you.

Another major change this year was our move to Sandpoint, Idaho. We have successfully set up shop and are currently filling orders and preparing for show dates. Sandpoint is beautiful and has the best recreational activities we like to enjoy, sailing in the summer on either Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced pond or-ray) or Priest Lake, and skiing in the winter at Schweitzer.

If you have been to the website lately, you’ll see that I have also updated our contact information. I have updated our new mailing address and phone number back to Krista’s original cell phone number. Unlike Mitchell, Oregon, we have cell service throughout Sandpoint. This is a mixed blessing because there is something to say about not being connected all the time.

As far as craft fairs this summer, Pauper’s Candle Company has been to Yamhill, Or, Richland, Wa, and Coeur d’Alene, Id. Our next show is over Labor Day weekend and will be in Mammoth Lakes, Ca. I am personally very excited to attend this show since I will be able to visit Yosemite National Forest for the first time in my life. Just one more item I can scratch off the bucket list. Our next update will be after the Mammoth Lakes Show with pictures of course.

Take care until then,

Mark Webber
Pauper’s Candle Company

Summer is Winding Down

It has been a while since I have added a blog. This summer went by so fast and was very busy. This was my first summer season in the Central Oregon Area. The shows have been quite slow. I was able to get into a show right at the end of the season that is located at Eagle Crest near Redmond, Oregon. This show was very nice and I will be able to be a vendor all of next season, which I am looking forward to.

I attended the Lavender Festival again this year and that was a super show. This show is located in Yamhill, Oregon, which is in the wine country here in Oregon. Labor Day Weekend I attended the Painted Hills Festival, which is in my home town of Mitchell. This was a very well attended festival considering the town I live in has 175 people. I had a great show.

I have completed my applications for the coming Holiday Season. I am looking forward to doing these shows. I have some shows I have been doing for years and I added a few new ones as well. In about a week I will be in Corvallis, Oregon, home of Oregon State University, to participate in the First Christian Craft and Art Show. This is one of my new shows.

Also this month I should be uploading my new website. My husband, Mark, has been working on it and I am adding the last finishing touches. I am excited with the new look of the site and new logo Mark created.

I will end here and I hope you all are having a super September. Remember to keep looking up and to keep our country Great!

Krista Webber

It's a Garbage Garden

I have never tried to grow a garden and this year I decided to make my first attempt. I have been reading like crazy to figure out the best way to have a garden in a rental house. I decided to make my garden by using recycled containers...Thus the name Garbage Garden.

I have been saving all my cans, jars, milk jugs and found some old planter containers I used in the past. I used some egg cartons to plant my seeds. The 24 egg pack from Costco has worked great. The egg carton is Styrofoam and I cut the top off and used it as a tray under the egg carton to catch the water. I also labeled by seeds by writing the seed info. on masking tape and taping it to toothpicks, which I stuck in the soil.

I have had success with the lettuce, peas, tomatoes, basil, sage, chives, and oregano, I planted. I am going to attempt again the peppers. thyme, onions, and cilantro seeds. I think that I soaked the seeds with water too long. I started watering the seeds from the bottom up and I think I did not drain them well enough before the next soaking. I now water the seeds with a bottle sprayer I had.

My peas are ready to be transplanted and I am excited. I am also picking up some strawberry plants for some hanging pots and I picked up a blueberry plant the other day and will be transplanting that as well.

I will report later on how the garbage garden is progressing.

Happy day to you all.

Mom's Weekend at OSU was GREAT!

On May 2nd I had a one day show at OSU, Oregon State University and it was an Awesome day! The night before the show I was staying with my parents in Corvallis, where the show was held, and it had been a great day. As the night approached the weather turned bad and it started to rain like none other. My mom and I looked at each other and said, It's Oregon, what do you expect?"

In the morning, the rain had let up and we dashed to the show to set up our tent. As we were getting everything out, the rain started again. Everyone was still setting up and so we did as well. As the opening of the show was approaching, the clouds parted and the weather cleared for about three hours. The amount of people who attended the craft fair was super. At about 1:30 the rain started and then at about 2:30 the wind came. My tent had weights, but I still had to hold it down. People were still buying craft items. By the time the show ended the wind kind of slowed and the rain stopped. We took down our tent and put everything away and again the rain came. As we were eating dinner we all looked at each other and were thankful that the show was only one day.

Even though the weather was not cooperative, the show was a great success!!

2009 Wine & Food Classic McMinnville, OR

The McMinnville Wine and Food Classic, also known as "The SIP" was held last weekend in McMinnville Oregon. This was my second time being a vendor. The show is held in the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon. The atmosphere is awesome! This year we were in the Space Museum instead of the Aviation Museum. There were many local wineries offering "sips" of their many different types of wine. Yamhill County in Oregon is known for their Pinot Noir Wines.

I was very interested to attend this show as it was my first show for the 2009 Season. As with my Christmas shows sales were down about 26% from last year. There were many people attending the show, but the public is cautious about what they are buying. The trend is still to buy more natural products and people are continuing to ask questions about ingredients and how products are made.

My husband, Mark, was able to be with me at this show. He and I thought that the show treats its vendors top notch. We, as vendors, were able to sign up for a free massage, there were snacks in the morning and afternoon, and there was always coffee, water, and lemonade available for the vendors. I have to say, I am not offered these "perks" at any other show I do. For more information about the McMinnville Wine and Food Classic, SIP go to http://www.macwfc.org/

My husband teaches high school English and History and after the show we were able to take some pictures of the many different space planes, space ships, and rockets at the museum. My husband was also able to get a guided tour of the main rocket and simulated count down they have at the museum. He and I totally loved all the information we read and history we saw after we had packed up our show. If you ever want to visit the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon, you can get more information at http://www.evergreenmuseum.org/

My next show is in April at the Blossom Festival in Hood River Oregon. This last Saturday we woke up to snow! What a surprise this was. I decided to let Sierra, our dag, and Edison, our cat, enjoy being out in it. OK, I will be honest, Sierra enjoyed it and we had just finished a walk to the post office and local mercantile/store. Edison liked it for about three minutes and decided he did not mind being an inside cat after all. Maybe I will get tired of snow, but for now it is a beautiful thing.

I have also enjoyed living in the rural and decided to take a picture of our neighbors on one side of us. She was enjoying the bit of sunshine we were having on this 28 degree afternoon. The two goats were still in their "Home". My Kitchen window faces my horse and two goat neighbors and every morning I get to see them and see how they are doing. Once the weather warms up I may not enjoy the smell from my neighbors, but for now it is all good.

I am getting ready for my spring shows. I start my show season in March and have a few things I want to have done before it all begins again for a new year.

I am wanting to change my show set up for this year. I have to build some new displays, but I think that my new set up will be more efficient and display my products better and hopefully will result in better sales. Also, I am just about done with my taxes. Isn't this a fun part of having your own business? Gathering all your receipts, sales slips, write offs etc. etc. etc. I will be glad when I have everything submitted to the tax man. I take my paperwork to a professional so I can have to peace of mind that they are filed correctly. Also I want to try an online store on etsy this year. I will keep posts on this new avenue.

This is all for now and a picture and information is coming of my new candle line....." First, we have grouped our candles into different candle lines, each having its own look to reflect the scents in that line. Second, each scent in each candle line is made up of a 7oz soy wax candle that comes in a box, a soy wax tealight candle pack that has 5 tealights in each pack, and an air freshener. Lastly, we have made these chagnes so we can keep our prices reasonable for you, our customers.

We are introducing our New Herb N' Garden Line:

This line consists of some scents that we had in our candle tins a couple years ago and some new scents have been added to complete the garden line and garden experience. The scents that come in this line are Basil Sage Mint, Cilantro N' Herb, Lettuce, Cucumber, Tomato Leaf, and Dirt. Helpful Hint: Be sure to burn our Dirt candle while you are burning Tomato Leaf. You will really bring the garden in and without the fuss.

Our Traditional Candle Line:

Many of our scents have stayed the same in this line as last year, but the packaging has changed. Each scent has a colorful label to correlate with the scent name. Honeysuckle has been added to this line and we have discontinued Mulberry, Hot Apple Pie, and Peach. Nag Champa has been moved to our Signature Candle Line. Helpful Hint: Everyone enjoys the scents in this candle line.

Our Signature Candle Line:

This candle line is made up of unique and exotic scents. We have our signature scent Hawaiian Mist in this line. My husband came up with the blend of fragrances we use to create our Hawaiian Mist Candles and air fresheners. Also, we have moved the scent Honeysuckle to our traditional Line and added Nag Champa to this line. Also we have two new scents to include in this line: Wine & Roses and White Ginger & Amber. These are great scents. Helpful Hint: For the person who likes the unique and exotic scents, you will be sure to find a scent in this line.

Our Aromatherapy Candle Line:

This is our 100% Natural Candle Line. We sold more natural candles in 2008 than in our previous years. We blend all our scent combinations in this candle line to formulate each candle. The scents are from 100% pure essential oil. Helpful Hint: This candle line has become a favorite to those who want a 100% natural candle.

One big difference this year is that we decide to discontinue making our Reed Diffusors that match our candles, but decided to make air fresheners to match each candle. We have enjoyed this change and hope you do too.

There is one more candle line coming in the next month and I will post a blog about it when it is ready for distribution. Just a little hint.....the candle line is named Lights of Liberty. This has been a candle line that I have enjoyed creating.

I will blog again soon.

Krista,

Owner

The Holiday Season is On........

The Holiday Season is off to a good start. So far the season has been good. I am doing some new shows and so it has been difficult to measure the season. The shows that I have done in years past have still been good. The pictures I posted are from three different shows I have done.

The first Picture is from the Tierra Del Mar Music and Art Festival. This show was last summer in August. This is always a good show and very well organized.

The second photo is from the 3rd Street Holiday Market in MacMinville, Oregon. This show runs for the months of Nov. and Dec. and is run my the downtown association. This is my first time doing a show where I set up my space and let it run without me there. So far so good with this show.

The last Photo is from the Church on the Hill show in MacMinnville, Oregon. This was my second time here and had a nice show. The event is very well run and organized.

I have four more shows I am involved in and I will be done with the Holiday Shows. I am looking forward to the break. My husband and I are going to be spending time at our house in Pacific City, Oregon. We are looking forward to the time away.

May you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Be sure to keep checking my website. I have made some changes to my candle lines. I may be adding one more dimension to my candle lines. We shall see......

Again, Merry Christmas to all
Krista Webber

It's been an adventure....

It has been a very long time since I have posted a blog. Much has happened with Pauper's Candle Company. First and most important, we have moved. Pauper's is now located in Mitchell, Oregon. This took place in the middle of August until the beginning of Sept.

My husband has a new teaching job here in Mitchell. Mitchel is a small town located about 45 minutes east of Prineville, Oregon. He is teaching in a school of about 63 students, K-12. He has enjoyed the change.

We traveled through Mitchell during spring Break and who would have thought that we woul be living here. We are also enjoying the change in weather. There has been mostly sunny days and warm weather. This last weekend, we took a drive to a near by town called Kimberly and bought some peaches to can from their orchards there. We also saw what is called the Blue Mountains on our way to Kimberly. This was a very beautiful site to see. We are enjoying the exploration of the area.

Pauper's is now established in our new home and we are up and running again. I am starting to hear back from Fall and Winter shows that I have applied for and I will update my website in a little bit to reflect the shows I will be at this coming Holiday Season.

I would like to thank my customers for their patience with the move of Pauper's. There are changes coming with our candles in the near future and our website will reflect this as well.

I will write again soon with more news, but I am off for now.

MidSummer's Art Festival in Ashland, OR

We loved the weather!!! My husband and I had not seem the sun in weeks. The Oregon Coast has been cloudy and rainy. To look at the festival more closely you can go to:

MidSummers Dream Art & Music Festival

There were many people who attended and the vendors were very friendly.

On this same weekend my in-laws ran a show for me in Sister's Oregon. They also had terrific weather and the show was in a beautiful setting, the local park.

I have to say the both of these shows were not my best shows in regards to sales. I am not sure if the economy is affecting the shows. All of my local shows and farmer's market are doing about the same as last year. I am glad that I decided to do only a few shows out of my area for the summer.

I am off and running this week because the 4th of July weekend is going to be very busy with shows. I am looking forward to that.

Double Booked - I am loosing it!

Do you feel like you are loosing your mind? This weekend I doubled booked myself and so my in-laws are doing a show for me in Sister's Oregon and I am doing one in Ashland, Oregon this weekend. I did not even realize this until two weeks ago and I have had these shows on my books for months. I wrote down the wrong date for the Ashland Show. Yikes, keeping track of all the shows, markets, and wholesale accounts sometimes gets a little confusing.

I am anxious to do some of my bigger shows to see how the economy is affecting the markets. I started the McMinnville Farmer's Market and had a good first day. I am only filling in for that market until September and then I will be there every week. I am excited to fill for the Manzanita Farmer's Market this summer season. Tillamook Farmer's Market starts this weekend. I will be there on June 21st. So, I am off and running. It is good to be busy with retail shows.

I will report back after the shows this weekend to remark on how they went. Until next time, don't forget to smell the roses.

Shows, Shows, and More Shows!

We had record breaking weather here in Pacific City, Oregon last weekend. Our neighboring town, Tillamook was over 100% and we had to be close. I was totally bumbed because I had to go into the valley for a show and missed my one opportunity to be able to wear shorts on the Oregon Coast and not be cold. WE have had a slow start to Spring this year and with the warm weather the plants have just started to bloom and come to life. It is nice to see. I feel like I have more energy. Love the Sun!!!

I have been busy gearing up and doing shows. This is always a good time of the year. I also am starting to get re-order from my retailers. I always like this. It means people are liking our candles.

I did a great show in Corvallis, Oregon at Oregon State University for Mother's Day Weekend. It was outside and the weather was perfect, partly sunny and no wind. I had my new signs up in my booth and was very pleased with the look of my new set up for my outdoor shows. A picture will be coming soon to show my outdoor set up.

Two weeks ago my in-laws started doing the Gresham Farmer's Market for Pauper's Candle Company and it started off with a bang! It is fun to have them doing this. I was able to be there last weekend, May 17th, before going to my own show. It was fun to watch how they set up and assist them instead of having to do it myself. They do an awesome job selling Pauper's Candles. Thanks Mom and Pop!

The show I did last weekend that was OK for me, but other vendors had a very good show. Some shows are good for candles and others are not. This show is very well organized, well run, and well attended. It was also a record breaking day for the weather. It was in the high 90's and candles do not always appeal on hot days.

I am off this weekend to Yachats, Oregon for the Crafts on the Coast Show. I have done this show for four years now and always enjoy this show. My mom comes to help me with this show. It is fun to be with her for the weekend. We stay one night in Yachats and it is a great time. She is great at selling my candles. I love it.

Well, I am writing this post late and am getting tired. May Spring be full of fresh surprises. Until next time.....

Snow in April on the Oregon Coast!?

Can you believe it? We woke up to snow last Sunday, April 20Th. This is what our town and beach looked like when we woke up. We have had snow other days this past winter, but in mid April this was a surprise. The snow did not last long, but was fun to have around. This just adds to our interesting weather for 2007-2008.

We officially have our house on the market. This is not the best time to be selling, but once summer comes so do the people and lookers to purchase rental properties or summer homes on the Oregon Coast. We shall see what happens.

My husband has been having talks with his school about doing some very innovative teaching strategies. If given the right offer, he may remain teaching for another couple years and as a result we will not move at this time. This is an interesting place to be. We love living in Pacific City, Oregon and if the teaching environment is going to change then hmmmmm this may make us think twice.

Time will tell and I will definitely keep updating as we know more.

Shows are about to begin for me. May is a busy month. I have three art/craft shows to be in and two Farmer's Markets start. My in-laws run one of them in Gresham, Oregon and I run the one in McMinnville, Oregon. Wow, this should be a start to a good summer. I have been accepted to some new shows this summer and I am excited to try them out. My website will have all the updates as to what shows we will be at, their times and locations. You can go to www.pauperscandles.com/Retailstores.html and take a look. I also had some new signs made for my booth and for my in-laws booth. These are the best signs I have had yet. I am anxious to put them up and see how they look.

I need to go and record some burn times on the candle testing. I will write about this next.

Don't forget to light your favorite candle with a nice Spring Scent. It helps me to remember that Spring is here, even if the weather does not make it seem like it.

Happy Burning
Krista Webber

Candle Testing

Here I am finally testing the new CD wicks I received. I am excited to see if these work better. I am looking for a more even burn, less soot, less wick timmings falling off and less mushrooming. We shall see if any of these elements are better with these wicks than with the wicks I currently use. Time will tell and I will keep you posted.

I was able to go with my husband to Ashland, OR this last weekend and we saw the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was an entertaining performance. The director had his idea of what he wanted to bring out in the play. My husband and his co-workers all had their opinions. For those who do not know Ashland, Oregon and the Shakespeare Theatres there, they are known world-wide and some of the best actors and actresses come to perform there. It is an amazing place and they run many plays during their season. This last weekend the weather was in the 80's and I was soaking in all the sun I could get. Here on the coast it has been very rainy. I am ready for Summer already.

Well, it is time for me to check and document my first burn times for the candles. I am off for now. We have been getting it ready with final touches for the last few months and decided to put it on the market now at the beginning of spring.

Our dream, since we have been married 13 years ago, was to have our own business and be debt free. We have worked hard these past years to pay all our student loans off, remain credit card debt free and have started Pauper's Candles. Selling our home will be a huge step in this process. Mark will be able to join me in running our business, Pauper's Candle Company. I am excited about this possibility and can hardly believe we are at this point!

We think that it is time to move Pauper's into a bigger shop where we both can work on the business full time. We are now located on the Oregon Coast. Where will we relocate the business? We are not sure. We have looked at many different locations all over Oregon and Washington. We shall see what happens when we sell our home.

Our Motto this year, "2008 is Gonna Be Great!" is shaping up to be just that.

Bye for now and may April be full of scents and Spring aromas.

The Painted Hills in Oregon

This Spring Break my husband Mark and I and another couple took a short trip to see parts of Oregon that none of us have ever seen before. We had a great time. It was nice to take a break from Pauper's and my husband is a teacher, so he was able to take a break from teaching.

I did not know that the Painted Hills in Oregon were so beautiful. They are located outside of Prineville near Mitchell heading east on Highway 26. We spent quite a bit of time hiking around enjoying the beauty of nature. It was nothing but cool!!

We also went to the three John Day Fossil Bed stops. The fossil beds were fascinating. They are still digging up new fossils today.

We also drove around Joseph, Oregon, which is Northeast of Baker City. This area has become a little artist destination. We traveled to many little and some ghost towns up in this area of Oregon. There was still snow on the ground in many spots.

We also went through some little towns below Interstate 84 named Condon, Fossil, Antelope and a few others. The diverse landscapes between these towns was awesome. We saw from prairie, to rolling hills, to rock landscape throughout this area. We loved it.

Sometimes it is necessary for the soul to see new places, meet new people, and take a step away to collect ones thoughts and gain new perspectives. We all need to take a moment every now and then.

Wicks, Wicking, Wicked

As far as candles go, finding the right wick can be a continual process. I like the wicks I am currently using, but I think I can do better. There is always room for improvement when it comes to creating the prefect candle!

In my Candlelighter newsletter from the IGCA, I found an advertisement sheet from a wicking company and this had me thinking even more about testing some new wicks. I called the wicking company, Wicks Unlimited, and they had some good suggestions and recommendations as far as which wicks to test.

I currently use a wick that burns upright and has a solid core. The melt pool that occurs tends to be even. I was told that these wicks work good with soy wax, but there is another wick that does not have a solid core. It is a braided wick. This wick tends to bend when burning and does not mushroom or have the carbon built up as much as wicks that burn straight. I was told that this wick also works well with soy wax.

The company offered to send me some samples. I thought that this was great. So after talking on the phone with the wick company, I thought that I would look in my box of extra wicks. Guess what? I found some of these wicks. I think that this is the wick that I first used when I started making candles. Funny how things come back around. I had to test the two sizes I had. I have burned the two different wicks with two different candles and one candle burns great and the other I am not sure is any better that what I currently am using. Hmmmmm

I did notice that when it came to the wick, bigger is not always better. The smaller of the two wicks melted the candle slower, but was able to pool the candle, the bigger wick melted the wax too fast and therefore had a tendency to tunnel.

I am going to have to get all the sizes I want in this new wick and pour one scent with all the sizes to see what wick works best and then decide if it is any better than what I am using. I am looking forward to testing all the wick sizes. We will have to wait and see what happens.

You know what I will be doing: Wicking new wicks and testing newly wicked candles.

Until next time, Share a Little Light with someone.

Daffodil Festival in Junction City, OR

I went to the Daffodil Festival this last weekend as a vendor. The festival is held in Junction City in Oreogn at the Long Tom Grange Hall. This was the 32nd year this festival has been held.

This weekend it was rainy, but it did not keep the people away. The daffodils were pretty and everyone enjoyed the cinnamon rolls and coffee that were served to them in the grange. The local talent was out in full force. The local community supports this event.

As a vendor, I had a very pleasant time. I was able to pull my vehicle up to where I was to set up my tent and everything was organized and ready fo the vendors. During both days of the show a woman came to the vendors to offer free coffee, tea, or hot cocoa. This was great and very much appreciated during the rainy times.

This event is great for families to come and enjoy themselves and support their local community.

McMinnville Wine and Food Classic was Full of Class!

I was a vendor at the McMinnville Wine and Food Classic this last weekend, March 7-9. All I can say is the McMinnville Wine and Food Classic was total class all the way. There were hundreds of vendors from Wineries to Food to Art. The set up and layout of the show was excellent and the setting of the show was superb.

The Picture of my Booth is without my Signage. Not as "snazzy" with out it, but I needed a pic. for a show without my Signage and then I forgot to take one with my sign up. Oh, well, can't win them all.

The Wine Classic is held at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, OR. This is where the Spruce Goose is located, along with many other vintage and modern airplanes. All the Vendors were located on the outside walls and the guests were able to walk through the Classic pick up a glass of wine wonder around the airplanes, have a little food and see what the art vendors had to sell. The Art was all hand made by the vendors, which is always nice. My booth was located almost under the wing of the Spruce Goose. What a cool spot that was.

From the beginning of the show to the end, the vendors were treated with nothing but respect and thankfulness. Each vendor had a booth that was sectioned off with curtains and had a skirted 8ft table ready to be used. Each morning and afternoon, there were breakfast and afternoon snacks supplied in the vendor room. There was always a pot of coffee on, which my husband and I loved. The many volunteers had everything organized upon arrival and departure for the vendors. I have to say this was one of the nicer show I have done. I also have to say that my candle sales were great throughout the weekend.

I will definitely put this on my list of shows to do again.

One funny thing that happened this weekend was that it was day light savings.... and you are correct I forgot!! My husband and I did not realize it until we received a phone call while still driving to the show. Opppsss!!!! The people in charge of the show were so understanding and when we got to our booth my neighboring vendors were running my booth for me. How awesome is that?! Like I stated already, the show was class all the way.

Right now I am heading down to cook candles and get ready for the Daffodil Festival this weekend in Junction City, OR. I will blog about this next week. Until then, enjoy the longer evenings.

Spring Candle Shows Are Approaching

Welcome to Pauper's Candles Blog. I am Krista Webber, the owner. For starters, if you want to know more about my company and how it all started you can go to my website and read "About Us", www.pauperscandles.com/aboutus.html

Today is another rainy day on the Oregon Coast. We have had quite the winter season, as I am sure many of you have had. Back in December we had what I call "Pioneer Days" at my house. The winter storm, with 100+ mile an hour winds, knocked out our power and phone lines. We lost 6 trees in our yard and thankfully none landed on our home. We did not have power, water, phone (cell or land line) for just about 5 days. At first it was fun. We lit candles all over the house, started the wood stove and fireplace, to keep warm. We gathered water in all our containers before the water was no more and cooked with our camping equipment. Most of all, I did not have to "work". I couldn’t make any candles.

After day three, this was getting old and I was I thankful I did not live in the Little House on the Prairie Days. I was also getting nervous, because I had a show to do the coming weekend and did not have a good supply of candles for the show. When we finally had our power, water, and phones back, I had a day to prep and pack for the show, which means I did not make one candle for the show, and went with what I had prepared before the storm. As it turns out, I had my best show of the season. My husband always reminds me that things work out, and one can only do what one can do.

Spring is on its way and I am glad. In 2 weeks I have my first outdoor show in Junction City, Oregon at the Daffodil Festival. This coming weekend I am at the Wine and Food Classic in McMinnville, Oregon. For those of you who are local these are great events to attend. The local wineries will be out in force in McMinnville and the Daffodil Festival is great for families.

Well, I need to get back to candling for my shows coming up.
