It has been a very long time since I have posted a blog. Much has happened with Pauper's Candle Company. First and most important, we have moved. Pauper's is now located in Mitchell, Oregon. This took place in the middle of August until the beginning of Sept.
My husband has a new teaching job here in Mitchell. Mitchel is a small town located about 45 minutes east of Prineville, Oregon. He is teaching in a school of about 63 students, K-12. He has enjoyed the change.
We traveled through Mitchell during spring Break and who would have thought that we woul be living here. We are also enjoying the change in weather. There has been mostly sunny days and warm weather. This last weekend, we took a drive to a near by town called Kimberly and bought some peaches to can from their orchards there. We also saw what is called the Blue Mountains on our way to Kimberly. This was a very beautiful site to see. We are enjoying the exploration of the area.
Pauper's is now established in our new home and we are up and running again. I am starting to hear back from Fall and Winter shows that I have applied for and I will update my website in a little bit to reflect the shows I will be at this coming Holiday Season.
I would like to thank my customers for their patience with the move of Pauper's. There are changes coming with our candles in the near future and our website will reflect this as well.
I will write again soon with more news, but I am off for now.

MidSummer's Art Festival in Ashland, OR

There were many people who attended and the vendors were very friendly.
On this same weekend my in-laws ran a show for me in Sister's Oregon. They also had terrific weather and the show was in a beautiful setting, the local park.
I have to say the both of these shows were not my best shows in regards to sales. I am not sure if the economy is affecting the shows. All of my local shows and farmer's market are doing about the same as last year. I am glad that I decided to do only a few shows out of my area for the summer.
I am off and running this week because the 4th of July weekend is going to be very busy with shows. I am looking forward to that.

Double Booked - I am loosing it!
Do you feel like you are loosing your mind? This weekend I doubled booked myself and so my in-laws are doing a show for me in Sister's Oregon and I am doing one in Ashland, Oregon this weekend. I did not even realize this until two weeks ago and I have had these shows on my books for months. I wrote down the wrong date for the Ashland Show. Yikes, keeping track of all the shows, markets, and wholesale accounts sometimes gets a little confusing.
I am anxious to do some of my bigger shows to see how the economy is affecting the markets. I started the McMinnville Farmer's Market and had a good first day. I am only filling in for that market until September and then I will be there every week. I am excited to fill for the Manzanita Farmer's Market this summer season. Tillamook Farmer's Market starts this weekend. I will be there on June 21st. So, I am off and running. It is good to be busy with retail shows.
I will report back after the shows this weekend to remark on how they went. Until next time, don't forget to smell the roses.

Shows, Shows, and More Shows!
We had record breaking weather here in Pacific City, Oregon last weekend. Our neighboring town, Tillamook was over 100% and we had to be close. I was totally bumbed because I had to go into the valley for a show and missed my one opportunity to be able to wear shorts on the Oregon Coast and not be cold. WE have had a slow start to Spring this year and with the warm weather the plants have just started to bloom and come to life. It is nice to see. I feel like I have more energy. Love the Sun!!!
I have been busy gearing up and doing shows. This is always a good time of the year. I also am starting to get re-order from my retailers. I always like this. It means people are liking our candles.
I did a great show in Corvallis, Oregon at Oregon State University for Mother's Day Weekend. It was outside and the weather was perfect, partly sunny and no wind. I had my new signs up in my booth and was very pleased with the look of my new set up for my outdoor shows. A picture will be coming soon to show my outdoor set up.
Two weeks ago my in-laws started doing the Gresham Farmer's Market for Pauper's Candle Company and it started off with a bang! It is fun to have them doing this. I was able to be there last weekend, May 17th, before going to my own show. It was fun to watch how they set up and assist them instead of having to do it myself. They do an awesome job selling Pauper's Candles. Thanks Mom and Pop!
The show I did last weekend that was OK for me, but other vendors had a very good show. Some shows are good for candles and others are not. This show is very well organized, well run, and well attended. It was also a record breaking day for the weather. It was in the high 90's and candles do not always appeal on hot days.
I am off this weekend to Yachats, Oregon for the Crafts on the Coast Show. I have done this show for four years now and always enjoy this show. My mom comes to help me with this show. It is fun to be with her for the weekend. We stay one night in Yachats and it is a great time. She is great at selling my candles. I love it.
Well, I am writing this post late and am getting tired. May Spring be full of fresh surprises. Until next time.....

Snow in April on the Oregon Coast!?

We officially have our house on the market. This is not the best time to be selling, but once summer comes so do the people and lookers to purchase rental properties or summer homes on the Oregon Coast. We shall see what happens.
My husband has been having talks with his school about doing some very innovative teaching strategies. If given the right offer, he may remain teaching for another couple years and as a result we will not move at this time. This is an interesting place to be. We love living in Pacific City, Oregon and if the teaching environment is going to change then hmmmmm this may make us think twice.
Time will tell and I will definitely keep updating as we know more.
Shows are about to begin for me. May is a busy month. I have three art/craft shows to be in and two Farmer's Markets start. My in-laws run one of them in Gresham, Oregon and I run the one in McMinnville, Oregon. Wow, this should be a start to a good summer. I have been accepted to some new shows this summer and I am excited to try them out. My website will have all the updates as to what shows we will be at, their times and locations. You can go to www.pauperscandles.com/Retailstores.html and take a look. I also had some new signs made for my booth and for my in-laws booth. These are the best signs I have had yet. I am anxious to put them up and see how they look.
I need to go and record some burn times on the candle testing. I will write about this next.
Don't forget to light your favorite candle with a nice Spring Scent. It helps me to remember that Spring is here, even if the weather does not make it seem like it.
Happy Burning

Candle Testing

I was able to go with my husband to Ashland, OR this last weekend and we saw the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was an entertaining performance. The director had his idea of what he wanted to bring out in the play. My husband and his co-workers all had their opinions. For those who do not know Ashland, Oregon and the Shakespeare Theatres there, they are known world-wide and some of the best actors and actresses come to perform there. It is an amazing place and they run many plays during their season. This last weekend the weather was in the 80's and I was soaking in all the sun I could get. Here on the coast it has been very rainy. I am ready for Summer already.
Well, it is time for me to check and document my first burn times for the candles. I am off for now. Have a great day

Dream to Reality

Our dream, since we have been married 13 years ago, was to have our own business and be debt free. We have worked hard these past years to pay all our student loans off, remain credit card debt free and have started Pauper's Candles. Selling our home will be a huge step in this process. Mark will be able to join me in running our business, Pauper's Candle Company. I am excited about this possibility and can hardly believe we are at this point!
We think that it is time to move Pauper's into a bigger shop where we both can work on the business full time. We are now located on the Oregon Coast. Where will we relocate the business? We are not sure. We have looked at many different locations all over Oregon and Washington. We shall see what happens when we sell our home.
Our Motto this year, "2008 is Gonna Be Great!" is shaping up to be just that.
Bye for now and may April be full of scents and Spring aromas.
